Why Bother Looking After Yourself

Recently a friend of mine passed away from stomach cancer. She was only, 40 and had three young children, and as far as I could tell had everything going for her. She had great relationships; a great business; great family; great friends, as well as an active and healthy lifestyle... and then boom.

Towards the end of her life I thought, well why not enjoy all that sugar and veg out in front of the TV more often...I might as well, who knows when my time will be up. Then I started feeling lethargic, had less energy, and a feeling started to grow that purported to me hang on - I am alive here. Yep right now I am alive. Right now, you are alive. I want to honour the life of my friend, and others, who live life to the full, and it is hard to do that when I feel tired and fed up. So I made a decision to get back on track.

Making the most of being alive

Making the most of being alive means appreciating the fact that you are alive. You have a body with which to interact with the world around you. You have friends and family to connect with, as well as activities to participate in. There are emotions to feel, okay so not all of them are great, but unfortunately you don’t get to experience the deepest joys without first experiencing the deepest sorrows. So get to it, allow yourself to feel; to be; to connect, and to do.

Your best tool for making the most out of being alive.

The best tool you have for making the most out of being alive is your body. It is through your body that you feel. You can experience sand between your toes; a beautiful sunset; a fragrant garden, and best of all some cuddles. It is through your body that you can experience movement and the feelings that go with that: the elation and wonder standing at the top of a mountain; moving to music; swinging on a swing, as well as playing games with your kids to name. Without a body this is not possible.

Your reason to look after your body

For me, wanting to make the most of being alive, a desire to live my life to the full is my reason for talking care of my body. What is your reason?

I choose to eat a healthy balanced diet, (with a few treats), so that I have the strength, energy and wellness to fully participate in life. Why do you choose to eat a healthy, balanced diet?

I choose to exercise and move my body in ways that are strengthening, and in ways that feel good to me so that I can run around with my kids; climb mountains, and have more energy to live each day with. Why do you choose to move your body?

Motivation and reason

Find your reason, and you will have the motivation to follow through on living life at healthier levels. Let your reason come from within you, and let your reasons link to your desires in life...the things you want to experience, to be, and to do.
