Spring Is Here

As I write this, it is the fifth day of spring. We have had some cold days that didn’t seem typical of spring but today the sun is shining. The birds are singing outside and I can see spring bulbs including freesias and sparaxis from my window. I am also aware of a couple of blowflies buzzing around inside. Yes, spring is here.
Perspective is important when thinking about life, about the good and the not so good. If I feel the warmth of the sun through the window I feel happy about spring weather. When I look at the blossom on trees in the street I smile. Other flowers bring joy into my day. The birds making nests is exciting.
The abundance of weeds all over the place can bring mixed feelings. It is lovely plants are growing so well in response to the good rains we have had plus the spring sunshine. Having to pull or dig out weeds so they don’t overwhelm my vegies and flowers can give me a backache.
The blowflies don’t make me happy. However, there are frogs, lizards and other creatures out there who will be thrilled to hear them. If there were no flies, mosquitoes and other insects I consider annoying, what would frogs eat? I love listening to frogs croaking at the river. Therefore, I guess I am glad there are blowflies and such in the world because without them there would be no frogs.
If I concentrate on the beautiful aspects of the weather right now I am happy. However, if I do not live in the moment I will miss out on the joy that today has to bring. If I think the arrival of spring means it won’t be that long to summer and some scorching hot days I will spoil today.

It is important to make the most of every day. There is certainly plenty to enjoy today. Having said that, I think I should take my dog out for a walk. I will be even more aware of the beauty of the moment by taking a walk in the fresh air and enjoying Nature.
