Shake It All Out Like A Cicada

The cicadas are wild this year. As soon as the sun peaks and rests against the blue body of the sky, the shrill cries of these insects begin. The cicadas rattle and shake in the trees, excited about the onset of the most powerful season of the year. The cicadas are crying out to the world to wake up. They are telling you to open your eyes, your hearts and your souls to the magnificence of a new year.

Here in Australia, Summer means both the ending of the year and the fresh beginning of a new one. For me, heat is so much more powerful than the coldness of Winter. Heat embodies anger, fire, passion and love. What a way to end a year and to start another, infused with such powerful feelings.

The heat is infectious.

This is the time of year when I find brown and delicate cicada shells clinging to dangling branches, rosemary trees and hedges in the garden. The cicadas know how close the new year is, and so they are shedding their skin, ready to start fresh. Most of them aren’t even waiting for the tick of the clock on the 31st of December. They move with their feelings, and shed their skin in their own time. Some might even wait until February, and that’s ok.

Today, tomorrow or next year, why don’t you try shedding a part of yourself that you don’t need any more?

Stand up and shake, shake, shake.

Shake out all the anger you’ve been holding onto this year: the grudges and the regrets folded neatly in your pockets. The aches and pains; the heart that's hurting, and the worried bones. From now on you don’t need these things. Stand up; play some loud music and shake your body. Shake it all out. Like a cicada. Laugh if you feel like laughing. Cry; scream and breathe loudly. Whatever you feel inside that wants to come out. Believe me, you will feel better, lighter and buzzing with an energy unlike any you’ve ever felt before. Isn’t that a good way to start a new year?

By getting rid of everything that doesn’t help you, or serve you; you will be left with so much more room for the things that you do need. Feelings, people and situations will be welcome. There will be so much more space within your little world for these exciting opportunities and circumstances to enter.

You are never empty.
You are never naked.

You are vulnerable, and vulnerability is beautiful.

Vulnerability makes it easier for you to shed the dark and let the light in. Let as much light and love in as you can, for there is no limit. The Universe is abundant.
