We are often a lot more critical of ourselves than anyone else, but we should probably start being kinder to the person in the mirror. It is important that we learn to love and respect ourselves as much as the next person.

By loving yourself you are emitting positivity and inviting great situations to occur in your life.

Think about how you treat your best friend. And compare it to how you treat yourself. They don’t match up do they? However they should. And no, that doesn't mean you start being rude and critical of your best friend. If you talk about good things and avoid certain behaviours around the people closest to you, then you should do that when you are alone too.

Next time you find yourself being critical of what you see in the mirror, stop and think. Would you say the same things to your friend? Or would you be much more understanding and say something kind? If the answer is yes, then all you have to do is behave the same way you would with a close friend.

Things you should be doing:

  • Make a list of all your strengths, and remind yourself of them regularly.

  • Take care of your body by eating healthily and exercising to increase your endorphins, which are the body’s feel good hormones.

  • Take time out to relax. Meditation is a good way to let go of your worries, and so are bubble baths.

  • Something fun that's just for you. Think about trying some nail art; learning a new language or sport, or baking your favourite dessert.

  • Take it easy when you make an error. It’s part of being a human. It's what you learn from them that’s important. Write it down, and remind yourself not to repeat it again.

  • Things you shouldn't be doing:

  • Concentrate on what you don't like about yourself. Instead, take part in activities that will help bring the things you love about yourself into the spotlight.

  • Bottle up your emotions. This only makes them stronger. Write them down or talk to someone, preferably a friend or relative.

  • Put yourself down. Negativity can be harmful to the body and soul.

  • Worry about things that are beyond your control. Focus on what you can control like your attitude, and make it work for you.
