Its The Thought That Counts
All this reflection on the upcoming winter and how we will manage the change of season lead me to a thought.
My thought was about the power of one's thoughts.
One thought has the power to change our perception of an experience from a positive to a negative.
One thought can motivate change such as going on a diet, becoming a vegetarian, or exploring spirituality.
One thought can end a relationship or begin a new one.
One thought can lead to further study or enrolment in an exercise class.
One thought can lead to the creation of a garden; a work of art, or something never before seen in the world.
One thought can lead to innovation, exploration and anticipation.
One thought can lead to a conversation, a collaboration or a whole choir.
One thought can lead to a beginning or an ending.
One thought can set events in motion or stop them all together.
One thought has infinite potential to add value to our life or not.
One thought can be contagious and bring together many different people to support a common cause.
So this lead me to thinking, that if one thought is so incredibly powerful, then perhaps it would be wise of me to be more mindful of my thoughts.
Maybe I can treat my mind like a beautiful garden where my positive, life affirming thoughts are flowers. My negative, self defeating thoughts are weeds.
So in the garden of my mind, I will try to be mindful and only plant flowers.
I know it is the nature of the mind to throw up negative thoughts. Like weeds, I am not able to stop them from sprouting, however when they do I can choose to pluck these weeds from my mind's garden.
Just thinking this way has already had an impact. It makes me smile to imagine this beautiful mind garden. My mood has lightened, and I feel optimistic.
What a lovely way to start the day, and all it took was a single thought!
