Facing Fears

What is scarier than what you are afraid of? Fear. Sometimes the actual thing that you fear is not as bad as the feeling of being afraid of it is. We fear fear.

I like that old saying The only way out is through. This is true. And the only way to avoid being afraid is to face your fear. That feeling won't be evaded by hiding away from what worries you. Unfortunately fear has a way of creeping into the most secure spots. You just can't shut it out. Fear knows all hiding spaces, and manages to find you wherever you are and no matter what you do.

By heading straight to the source of where the fear is coming from and dealing with whatever it is that is bugging you, you can diminish fear. It may not be that bad after all. And fear may just be a reminder that you need to deal with something, and not just the horrible feeling we wish to avoid.

It's all about changing the way we look at things I guess. Consider fear to be an alarm or reminder set to give you a nudge so that you can put something important into perspective, finish it off or just merely stop running away from it and take a look at it, or listen to it. This thing you fear may have something important to tell you, and that is all. But you will never know until you give it a try. Go through it and come out the other side before you truly decide it is worth being afraid of.

Alarms aren't meant to ring forever, and how can you live with that buzzing sound going off all the time? They are meant to wake you up and get you going. Don't press snooze on your fear. Turn it off by taking action.
