Choosing Your Mountains to Climb
Fear immobilizes people. An employee may refuse a job promotion for the sake of comfort, because the higher you climb, the harder you fall. Whenever our lives foster, greater problems are encountered. Buying a more expensive and more comfortable house will mean higher bills to pay, but this shouldn't stops us from striving.
Every time we own more, just like having more children, more responsibility and effort is demanded. The more friends we have, the more time we lose for each one of them. Owning a Ferrari would mean a more expensive maintenance. You choose businesses to get into, but there are only a few things you can be excellent at.
This is where prioritizing comes in. In the rules of career growth, you cannot spread yourself to thin. If you are an artist, focusing on being one of the best in your country, and in the world. If you imagine yourself as a best-selling author, then go ahead, stay awake in the wee hours of night making your own kind of books. Just as long as you love what you are doing, you won't feel very tired at the end of the day.
Apart from choosing your priorities will be the skills you need to get your goals. You encounter many choices every day, you can choose to sleep the whole day or wake up and get moving towards your goals. You want to buy a new car, but you don't even know how much you need to raise. You cannot just wish for something not know what you have to do in order to get it. Get clear at what you want, and know what you need to do. To get something, you have to give something in return.
You want to win a trophy from a marathon, then go running every day until you get fit to win a trophy. Remember that in your career, the position where you sit in is reflective of your efforts. Everybody in the corporate world who are ahead of you, didn't get there without working themselves off. Give credit to what is due. Model somebody who has been good at your chosen field, observe at how the person gets through his or her day, how the deals are presented and closed. The person can equip you with all the values that helped him or her get to the top.
Climbing your own mountain, you at first have to choose which. If you want the highest, then the more sweat from you is required. If you want comfort, then choose the hills, if you want challenge and the feelings of awe as you stare down, go for the mountains' summit. You have to know something better than the others, choose your own field, and be an expert. Have people look for you when they need someone from that area.
