happy, colourful

When I grew up a bit, the time came when Dad became friend as well as Father. We would talk a lot.

Condensed here's what he said:

Everyone's got the same job in life. That is to live your life as happy as you can in your circumstance. Do what you want. As long as you don't hurt anybody else. There'll be times when you step on other people's toes. As long as you don't do it intentionally. There'll be times when you'll have to step on other people's toes and it can't be helped. Live your life as nice as you can.

When my kids grew up a bit, the occasion came to tell them the same. Each one at different stages of their lives so I had to keep repeating myself (still).

I think of this a lot. It's helped me, hope it does the same for you.

Thanks. Lucky to be 'mistake' child born 10 years after the crop, so they were older than mate's parents. Also meant I kind of got them to myself for a while because the others were gone from home when I was old enough to know what was going on.
Your Father sounds like a very wise man!
Thank you Rhi Rhi T. I see it as a kind of 'catch all' safety-net type of thing that can help you through all sorts of situations in life :)
This is so beautiful, and so true.
Its also a hard transition for the parent when their child is no longer a child, and becomes a parent themselves.
