Achievement, Goals, Realistic, Reward, Self Confidence, Trust Yourself

Confidence is about believing your way of doing things and your views are as valid as those of anyone else. It is not about thinking you are better than someone else. It is also about being brave enough to attempt new activities. Sometimes it is difficult to feel truly confident and trust yourself but there are things you can do to give your confidence a boost.

Trust that you are doing the best you are capable of at this time, using your current abilities, talents and knowledge base.

Remember there is only one you. Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others.

Set small goals. Your confidence will build from achieving small wins on a regular basis. If you set big goals and you arenít very confident it is all too easy to feel a failure when you donít quickly achieve that big goal. Make sure any goals are your own goals, not those of other people.

Be realistic. In life people make mistakes, experience setbacks and have problems. Have a plan B when it seems advisable. Donít try to take responsibility for things which are out of your control.

Tell yourself you have the situation under control. Picture yourself dealing with the situation successfully. If that little voice in your head starts with the negative chatter, just say, ĎStop.í

Act as if you are confident.

Learn new skills. It might be something small but the satisfaction will boost your confidence. Remind yourself of your achievements.

When faced with something you find difficult write down the best outcomes which could come from doing it and the worst possible outcomes. Getting your thoughts down on paper will help you face your fears instead of having a jumble of fears and thoughts racing around in your head.

If you have to do something you donít feel confident about, promise yourself a reward when you have done it. Having something to look forward will provide motivation. Reward yourself for just doing it.

Praise yourself for having given something a go even if the outcome wasnít as good as you hoped.

I think Marie Curie had realistic advice when she said, ĎLife is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.í
