Unique-ness and purpose.
Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”- Dr Seuss
You are completely unique and have been chosen to walk this earth. No one else looks, feels, thinks, talks or moves exactly like you. Your personality is a gift to the world around you because like you it is also unique.
So considering you are one of a kind and you may only have one life to make your mark, what will you do? What gifts have you got that you can share? Why do you think you were chosen to be here?
Having a purpose, some form of passion to get up in the morning and to keep going increases our drive and self esteem. Which in turn accelerates our happiness. If we just continue with the same routines, do the same mundane tasks over and over just cos we have to our life can soon feel boring and meaningless.
Your passion/s or the things that drive you don't need to be the latest hot trend or what your best friend does they need to be the best for you. It doesn't matter if others find it uncool or lame if it has a meaning for you, if you love it then do it. It's your life and you will regret it if you don't.
If you follow the crowd and do only what others around you are doing you may not be living the best life you could be. You could be missing out on remarkable experiences.
Wonder how I know this? I know because as a silly teenage girl I was the one who followed others. I used to dress like my best friend, talk like my best friend and when we left school I even enrolled in the same course. I was hopeless at the course, bored rigid and completely unmotivated. All because it wasn't what I wanted. I may have not been totally sure of what I wanted however, I still knew it wasn't that.
Don't worry if you haven't found your passion or the thing that drives you when the time is right you will find it. This thing you will love, live for and live to do. It will come when it comes. You can go along with friends, try things, experience things to find out what appeals to you and what doesn't. Try all these things with open eyes and heart.
Whatever you do don't allow others to persuade you to do things you know are not your passions and if they criticise the things you do decide to do just laugh it off and hold your head high. Say something like *'we are all different people who like different things and that's normal'*. How boring would the world be if we all did the same thing? We would be letting so many opportunities pass by and we would never be true to ourselves.
Following the crowd, lying about your enjoyment and hiding your life purpose or passion in something won't make you happy. A happy life is a life full of meaning and a life where you remain true to you.
Be on the look out for Part 2, in which I will give you some simple ways to find the real you. Finding yourself is necessary to be true to yourself. So please, come on the journey with me.
Can you think of an example of a time when you weren't true to yourself? We would love to hear your experience of it so please tell us in the comments.
