Do you want to try something crazy? Stop using social media for a week.
For those of us born before 1990 we can still remember the days of the home phone and actual social interaction. Recently I found myself feeling disgusted by the images and memes on social media. Harmful body image, online bullying, lacking of moral values when showing your private body parts.
After much consideration I decided to delete all my accounts and move more towards using the internet for reading informative blogs, articles and real writing. After a month I haven't even noticed the difference in my life other then an increase in reading and self education. I no longer feel pressure to look like an Instagram model or celebrity look-a-like. I find myself better managing my free time.
Do you dare take this challenge and see yourself turn back into a normal social person with better personal view? Give it a week, I guarantee you will never look back.
It's a double-edged sword and it depends on your motive and method; like any tool it can do harm or good depending on how you use it.
I use it wisely. My family and friends (people I've made an actual connection with) are widespread and I use facebook to keep in touch with them. I am a mental health advocate and my instagram page is dedicated to showing life beyond the label to empower people to grow. I'm not interested in 'friend collecting' or faining followers, I use social media to truly connect.
That does not change the truth of your article. Social media is a tool that is widely used in a destructive way. I just wanted to present the other side.
