A mug is just something you drink your hot chocolate, coffee or tea out of, isn’t it? To me a mug is more than that. Many people have their personal or favourite mug they always use at home. I have a number of mugs I really love and I will choose which one to use at a particular time depending on my mood. Okay, sometimes the one I want is in the dishwasher so I have to make a second choice.
I have a mug with pastel coloured irises on it. It is very feminine and I bought it soon after my first husband and I decided to go our separate ways. To me it symbolises a new start and independence.

There is a mug decorated with purple and white flowers in a blue vase. It was my Mother’s and I think of her when I use it. Mum loved writing letters and sent snippets of local news to The Advertiser back in the fifties to make some extra money. This mug is a good one to use when I am busy writing and want something to drink my coffee from.

I have a bone china mug with kookaburras on it. This reflects my love of Nature and the local birds. Sometimes I hear kookaburras laughing when I am sitting outside. I often choose this mug in the morning when I sit outside to have my coffee.

Another bone china mug is covered in small flowers. I love flowers and the garden. This is a mug I use at various times. If a friend drops in for a chat I may use this mug. Sometimes I grab it when I am going to watch a DVD or read a library book.

Occasionally I feel like a bigger coffee hit. I have a larger mug given to me as part of a present when I left my last job. I think of my colleagues and remember working with them as I sip my caffeine. This mug is usually the one I choose when I am embarking on a creative project which requires lots of concentration.

Lastly, there is a small mug with a cat playing with a butterfly in a garden. I love the picture on it as I love gardens, cats and butterflies. You may ask why I hardly ever use it. It is simply too small.

Each one of these mugs is sometimes my favourite of the moment. My mugs tell a lot about my personality, history and outlook on life.
