What are some of the reasons people choose to make presents?
The personal touch. Some people object to mass produced items and love to give something they have made with the receiver in mind rather than buying all their presents.
Each present can be tailor made for the receiver using colours and themes that have meaning and fit in with the taste and preference of the receiver.
Food presents can be made with any allergies or intolerances in mind.
Presents can be one of a kind.
To show you have really thought about it. Buying a number of presents all the same to give to family and friends may suggest you didn't give the matter much thought. (On the other hand it can avoid jealousy between the receivers if this tends to be a problem. It can also reduce stress for someone who has many people on their list or many responsibilities.)
