Looking after yourself may seem a bit daunting at first. The children come first, or your parents; your spouse, the house ... the Dog needs vaccinations. And that's before you go to work in the morning... really, who has time to look after No:1? Its just another full-time job?
Right. And the most important one we have. Neglecting it eventually harms confidence, relationships and enjoyment of life. One day all those other things (and people) who rely on YOU? Will come tumbling down like a deck of cards, with you at the bottom, without it.
Looking after yourself makes good sense and ensures a happier and healthier life, for everyone. So, let your NO mean NO and your Yes, a resounding YES (don't change your mind), take time to think it through first.
They may grumble at first, but you will win simply by standing firm and sharing your joy. Listen to yourself, you know what you need to do.
Mother Theresa wisely said; 'We cannot do great things in this world, only small things with great love.'
You have to learn to let go of the things you can't change and focus on the small things you can. Be honest.
Start with something as simple as a commitment to eating well and staying hydrated (at least 1.5 litres per day) - iced water each morning will boost your metabolism by 24% alone).
On the subject of being honest with yourself, remember exercise and movement are not the same as work, and work is not rest, or play. Don't blur the lines. It takes practice.
Sometimes caring for yourself means learning to delegate; letting others help you. If you can't, seek help. Ironically caring for others is often the best ways to care for ourselves. Reward yourself regularly. How about a latte, or massage. You Deserve it!
