Life Is Full Of Beauty

Every day we hear about sad and shocking events happening in the world. The media focuses on these things. People shake their heads and say what a bad place the world is. However, every day there are also lots of positive things happening. Some events, like the sun rising, happen every day but they are very important. Ordinary people help others and share their love as well as possessions. People just don’t have the same tendency to talk about the positive and beautiful things in daily life as they do about the negative.

When I have gone camping I get up early to watch the sun rise and take photos. I am not a morning person so watching the sun rise is very special for me. Let’s face it, sometimes when I am at home I would be up before the sun rises but I don’t go outside to watch it happening. It amazes me that something so important just happens every day with no fuss or celebration. Yes, there will be some birds waking up and singing but generally people don’t take notice of the sun rising.

Here is a quote I love, ‘Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.’ (Ashley Smith). When one makes a conscious effort to notice the beauty, one will see and feel it.



Bernie Siegel, retired paediatrician and writer, said,’Feelings aroused by the touch of someone's hand, the sound of music, the smell of a flower, a beautiful sunset, a work of art, love, laughter, hope and faith - all work on both the unconscious and the conscious aspects of the self, and they have physiological consequences as well.’

I appreciate the works of art painted on the walls of buildings and stobie poles for all to enjoy. Street Art is popping up all over the place and it is fun to watch out for it. Okay, some pieces are not beautiful but many brighten a boring car park, ordinary street or alley way.


Artists and musicians can create beautiful things that are uplifting. There are lovely parks and public gardens to admire. Many homeowners have pretty gardens we can enjoy looking at as we walk past.

There are good things happening every day. When there is a disaster people help each other out. The recent bushfires demonstrated this with folk making donations and assisting in various ways. It is not just humans that have been helped. People have sewn pouch liners for injured joeys and cotton mittens to protect koalas' paws as they heal.

While we are all aware of the sad and depressing things that happen in the world, it is important to remember to look for the beauty and love that is also there. It is even better if we can contribute to the good in the world.
