Instant Mood Shifters

When I'm in a bad mood, I sometimes find it quite difficult to shift. It doesn't help that I can be very stubborn. But there definitely are a few sure-fire ways that change the way I feel almost instantly.

Going For a Walk

It really helps me to just get up and go for a walk. During the walk I think out my issues, and I'm getting fresh air, not to mention having plenty to be distracted by. I might see a beautiful tree. A friendly cat might stop me for a chat. The sky may look extra special. People might walk past me and smile. Different smells from restaurants or peoples homes might put a rumble in my belly, or I could see the most prettiest flower I have ever seen. Whatever it is about a walk, it works.

Taking a Shower

There is something purely magical about taking a shower. You are all hot and bothered, sweaty and ticked off or confused about something, and then the water comes gushing down and you enter a mystical realm of wonder. You close your eyes and let the water run down your face and over your head; somehow not only cleaning your body, but your mind and spirit. I've found many answers to my puzzled thoughts in the shower, and walked out not only smelling of the sweet scented soap, but somehow changed on the inside. It's wonderful. Showers work every time.

Talking with a Good Friend

I pick up the phone and call my bestie. We start with my problem. She then tells me hers, and then we move on to about ten thousand different other topics; have a laugh; have a bitch; discuss our dreams and goals, and then I'm good. It's that simple.

Watching Something

It could be a funny show, a cartoon, sit com,documentary, movie or even a Youtube clip with a montage of silly cats and kittens. Whatever it may be, sitting down and watching something that has nothing to do with my life puts me in a much better place.

Music

If I'm angry I could blast some metal, which makes me feel bad...but in a good way. Preferably while driving. Or relaxation music. Something zen gives me a feeling of peace. Just music in general. If my mood is dull or low and I switch on the radio, I am instantly changed.

Food

Sometimes I don't realise that I am in a bad mood simply because I am hungry. It's not until I taste a bit of something delicious that suddenly my mood is lifted, and I know that this is all I needed. It's easy to reach for something a bit naughty to eat when you're feeling down, but I've learned that things like donuts, cake and chips are just a quick fix, and that good feeling won't last long - as it will soon turn to guilt or to a yucky unhealthy feeling inside. It's best to make something fresh. A lovely salad with the works. Go crazy. Getting really creative with a salad lifts my mood, and then when I finally get to eat it I feel nourished, nurtured and cleansed inside. Fresh juice or water to accompany it helps too.

So, there you go, these are some of my instant mood shifters. I hope that these work for you too, and help you to feel uplifted.
