I love a good bottle of wine, and I'll admit that I've probably enjoyed one too many in the past year or two. My waist line could tell you so, but there is something else which makes me think that perhaps I should lay off a little.
I store empty wine bottles in the garage upon some shelves, putting a couple out with the recycling bin when they can fit. On Christmas day I had family and friends over, and the drinks were flowing. The next day I went out to the garage to put some bottles away and I was shocked to see just how many I had in storage. It's beginning to look like a cellar, except the bottles are all empty.
This not only had me thinking that perhaps I drink too much, and should send the wine on its way for a while, but it gave me an idea of what to do with them all.
Not only do I love wine, but I love good food as well. I love getting creative in the kitchen, and inviting loved ones over for a meal I hope will blow their socks off.
So, the thought came upon me to start making my own sauces and oils or dressings, bottle them in the old wine bottles (after being cleaned of course), decorating them with my own little creative labels and giving them as gifts when I have people over.
I'm pretty excited about the idea, dreaming up all kinds of different recipes. And I'm also happy about the fact that I will be getting rid of the so far useless collection I've created in a positive way.
So, if you are like me, and over indulge a little when it comes to food and wine, you could give this a go too. I'm sure dinner guests will appreciate the gesture of not only being treated to a meal, but being presented with a homemade decorated bottle of something delicious that you have prepared just for them.
Goodbye wine, and hello imagination. I'm really looking forward to putting my idea into action. Out with the old, and in with the new, there are so many different things for us to do. You don't always need to throw things away, as you can use your imagination and find another way.
