Ahhh the one word that has made so many legends today in various fields. The single attribute you need to keep going no matter which direction you choose. To me confidence is like oxygen, and unfortunately in life, it isn't going to drop down for you to pull it closer to you and inhale when you need it.
While building confidence has many ways, there are certain actions that I have learnt not to do for confidence to stick around. Be it pursuing your interest in a profession, walking down the ramp in a fashion show or probably making a presentation; having confidence not only makes the difference, it makes you who you are as an individual. Be sure to avoid a few things, and you should be right on track.
Push Negativity and 'Scare Bombs' :
When you start something, or do something, chances are there will be 9 out of 10 people who would discourage you. This is the norm. Now these people don't mean bad, but they are there to share their experiences and their ideas which may or may not happen to you. Even while you are confident, their experiences and ideas drop the 'scare bomb,' and your confidence is like a time bomb ticking away to explode. So accept the good and push the negativity away .And criticism can be taken, but as long as it is value adding and not irrelevant or insignificant.
Take care with Appearance :
An important factor, but it is not something you do for others' approval. Wearing a nice dress or a smart suit should make you feel on top of the world. But seeking approval from anyone else will only pull you down because everyone's style is unique, and as long as you are comfortable and can carry yourself confidently, that's all that matters.
Erase your Self Doubt :
The biggest killer of confidence. You are who you are with deep-rooted talents, and you're unique at it. Having self doubt will doom you, and will bring your morale down; and no matter how much you try to get up, as long you doubt yourself or your ability, you will face challenges. Let go and accept that you are special and have a long journey ahead of you. Drop the heavy bag called self doubt, and you will see that you will catapult forward faster than you thought.
Confidence need not be difficult. It need not be skewed or be an illusion It just needs dropping your self-doubt, taking care of yourself and practising selective hearing. And when that happens, there is no looking back.
