About eighteen months ago I decided to see if I could manage without a car. My old car wasn't worth fixing and I didn't want to spend money on a replacement. Living without a car isn't an option for many people but I have found there are numerous advantages
for me at this point in my life.
Advantages of not owning a car include-
1. Saving money on -
Accessories such as steering wheel cover, seat covers, sound system and replacements
2. Less stress -
Someone else does the driving and watches out for all the hazards
Don't have to worry about dangerous weather conditions making the road hazardous
Don't have to search for somewhere to park
Don't have to worry my car will get damaged while parked
No worry about detours delaying me
Don't have to negotiate road works

3. No guilt about-
The environmental impact of driving a car
Not maintaining it as conscientiously as perhaps I should
Managing without a car
I am able to walk to nearby places including the main street. This means I get enough exercise without thinking about it. I live a seven minute walk from the railway station. Local buses and a bus that travels to nearby towns also stop at this station. There is a taxi service I can use when needed.

Now and then a friend gives me a lift.
I get my groceries delivered. Many other businesses deliver for a reasonable fee. I have found it is worth while checking the cost of delivery. One local hardware store uses a courier service to deliver goods and charges $70. Another has their own vehicle for deliveries and charges $40 and a third only $15. Guess where I shop if I need hardware items delivered?
Soon after deciding to try managing without a car I found the advantages outweighed the disadvantages
