It can be easier to give up sometimes. To feel like something is just not worth the effort it is taking. The reward may not feel good enough. The cost may be too great.
There's something special about persevering though. Of sticking with something to the end. Of getting through the tough times and finally achieving a goal. This sense of accomplishment, of achievement, can mean more in fact than the actual achievement itself.
Knowing that we didn't give up, knowing that we some how found the courage, the stamina can help us learn about ourselves. It can help us gain strength for the future. It can help us trust ourselves. Know that we can do things that seem impossible or hopeless at the time.
Caring for ourselves means continuing to grow and develop. This requires testing ourselves. It means pushing the boundaries. It's only through these efforts that we can really know ourselves and what we are absolutely capable of. Placing trust in our abilities, finding ways to make something work, not giving in are all important in putting ourselves first, of taking care of our mental selves.
The pride that comes from getting through difficult times can instil a sense of hope for the future. It can help us to value our abilities, notice what may have gone unnoticed and to let the world know that we are capable, that we are determined, that we can surprise ourselves.
Perseverance can help us to get achieve things we didn't expect to ever achieve. It can help us to set new and bigger goals. To continue our life journey with greater anticipation and forward planning as we reach out and aim for new accomplishments. What had seemed out of our reach or out of control may now look achievable.
Caring for ourselves takes courage. It takes hope and trust in ourselves. It is through perseverance that we find these traits.
